Dale, This Site is WACK!

Sorry guys, the links etc dont work very well right now.  I am changing the web address to this site. half of the addresses have the new site linked to them,  and it really doesnt exist currently.



  It will likely take two more days before all of the changes are made and the site is working correctly.  "zumbawithdale.blogspot.com" will still always work,  It will just redirect you to the new address.   I am changing to a DOMAIN!  WOOT!  Just another of my ongoing efforts to become bigger, better, more professional, for my students.

The Benefits of Early Morning Exercise

As far as loosing body fat, and even weight loss, early morning exercise is HUGE!

Every night when you goto sleep, you go several hours without eating anything.  Your body is digesting whatever remains from the previous day.  So when you wake up and exercise first thing, the calories that you are burning goes directly toward your stored energy (fat) and not burning off the energy you acquired from your last meal.


One might say you can get the same result by just not eating.. DONT DO THAT!!!  as we all know your metabolism drops and our body goes into "famine mode" - this is where our body holds onto what ever it has and "stores energy" or fat so we can have energy to do what ever we want to do..  On the flip side, if we are currently eating frequently, our body doesnt hold onto "energy" because it always has a constant flow of it coming in all of the time.. our metabolism rises..   So you will want to wake up early in the morning, exercise, and then eat..  Ideally an hour - hour and a half after you exercise for the maximum benefit....

Protecting your knees

Ive had a few students in class lately talking about knee pain etc. 


 The first thing that comes to my mind when i hear this is muscle imbalance -  when you are moving your knees, you are using most of the muscles in your leg.  If some of these muscles are much stronger than the others, it is very easy to throw out and injure the weakest link.  Therefore, it is important to strengthen all of muscles individually to make sure they are all strong.  If you injure your knee, it puts you out of commission.. you cant go ANYWHERE with out them..  not to the bathroom, not to cook.  Often times the only thing you can do is sit at home and not move an inch just to let it heal a bit.  I learned this sad lesson just a few months ago.


I injured my knee last spring.  It was about the worst thing I could do considering i am a carpet layer and a fitness instructor.  It took at least a couple of months to get over my injury..  I began doing a bunch of leg/knee exercises.  Here is a movie on youtube that i found and liked:

Did you guys notice the short kind of squat he did in this video leaning on a chair?  I stole this from him and was putting a free standing version in my zumba warm ups for awhile.  Make note of all of the form he uses.  
(i should start doing them more).  Another thing that REALLY helped was getting on the exercise bikes at no 
tension...  On an injured knee, this strengthens the muscles closest to your knees, and doesnt put a whole lot of pressure, so you dont injure it further...  I could literally feel a difference afterward.  Cycling is very healthy for your knees.  Also, the exercise machines in the weight room work really well - Leg press, quadricep machine, hamstring curl, adductor and abductor(inner and outer thighs) machine, etc work great... and when you are doing the leg press, try and do some really small reps, just slightly bending your knee.  15-20 reps are more safe.  I dont recommend you do any workouts with free weights unless you have been shown the proper form by a qualified fitness expert.  






What to watch out for when you are doing zumba:  The main thing that I think of is flaring your heals.  This is when you twist your heal out away from your body, so your heal is pointing directly out from the side of your body.. this happens real often when we are on our toes..  Sometimes I get carried away in class..showing off.. and I do it. .  I really shouldnt loose focus, im sorry.  The killer is the salsa back, remind me in class and ill show you what I mean.  Please pay attention to your knees so you can have a amazing injury free year next year.


Id like to encourage all of my students to do some leg strengthening exercises on a weekly basis.   Without your knees you are put out of commission, you cant do anything.. And id hate to miss you in my class!

Holiday Schedule

Hey guys.  Ive had some questions about the schedule these next couple of weeks.

 2 classes will be cancelled.

1)  Christmas eve at West Valley (Its a Friday, class wont go because the facility closes at noon.)
2)  Christmas day at Midvale.   (Saturday)

Diosa and Karine are both excellent and successful instructors.  I have worked with Diosa a number of times with the zumba squad.  And Karine has been a big part of my classes and supports just about everything i do, and i did a class with her last year this time.  It is very important to me for these guys to have the best master class possible.  They have both been a huge support to me.  I am going, Amy is going, lets get a crowd and go down.  We can make this a very special thursday night class for us all. Tango WorkShop with the Tango King - Patrizio Merlo!

Tonight, there is a workshop with Patrizio Merlo! He is from Orlando florida, He is well known throughout the zumba world. He has been nicknamed the "Tango King" because he is known for his zumba tango routines. He from Argentina (where tengo originated) and studied it he is a very talented instructor. Zumba Flash

    Get ready for the Zumba Squad again!  ZUMBA FLASH, Jan 7th!  Tomee Pace was asked to participate in a zumba event promoted by a group for a fundraiser (see the facebook event page by clicking on zumba flash).  She was asked to get some other instructors to come help.  Naturally she came to the Zumba Squad.  So the Zumba Squad as well as some other local instructors will be participating.  And as we all know, the Zumba Squad throws a great party!  The crew of promoters are really doing a good job in promoting and putting the event together!  Im happy there is finally an event i dont have to promote for.  Cant wait!  See you all there!

Zumba Parties w/ the Z/D crew!

I just did a free class the other day. It was in lehi.... The zumba w/ dale (Z/D) crew in lehi got a free class last tuesday and i just got amazing adveritizing. Id like to give a very special thanks to Melissa, who set the whole thing up.

It was at a lds church for a church activity. All Melissa did was she talked to the activities director. Social groups usually like this type of thing.. who doesnt like zumba right? There where over 20 ppl there, so i awarded Melissa with this shirt.
This is the Shirt im awarding melissa! thats right, im getting purple racers in now!
WAY TO GO MELISSA!!! I have every Tues and Thurs night WIDE open! Schedule a zumba party with me! Its a great excuse for everyone in the Z/D crew to get together and tear it up! lol.. all you have to do is get a group together.. often that just requires talking to an activities director of any club, church, social group etc. I do these for FREE so i can promote my studio classes.
